The Daily 49er - Long Beach, CA

By Scott Boardman

Melancholy tracks incorporated with simplistic keyboards, drum beats, and guitar riffs fill the new album "Blue Cotton Skin," by female artist, Petracovich.

Sounding much like Poe (remember "Johnny Angry Johnny"?) or Sheryl Crow without the rock pop tunes, this album is a decent effort from an artist that originally hails from Santa Barbara.

Although going under Petracovich, her great-grandfather's last name, her real name is Jessica Peters.
The first track, "Nighttime," outlines what most of the album will sound like.

Every song contains the same basic composition and does not try to splash into different types and genres of music. This is a good thing.

This ambivalent sounding music is perfect for a dark Hollywood coffee cafe, but do not count on hearing it on KROQ. One or two songs might make it to the play list of KPCC or KCRW for the eclectic bunch.
Right now Petracovich is planning a national tour with a possible stop in Long Beach.
