Petracovich "Blue Cotton Skin" (Red Buttons) Nice moody spacey post industrial pop with far away spooky little girl vocals emanating from deepest darkest space. Evoking ghosts and memories of Portishead, or any number of their imitators with a slightly more psychedelic attitude. Dreamy and seductive without ever startling the listener out of their reverie. Has a sort of girlish combination of fragility and resolve that recalls Aimee Mann or a very young Rickie Lee Jones. There's a creative mind behind all of this, and the songs are varied and adventurous. Mostly Jessica Peters alone with her devices, though she is joined by a few friends who play on the odd track, this is largely a solo show. Quite a beguiling and charming debut. George Parsons |
